Month-End Close & Controls System

Close finishes when the file gets sent, not when the numbers are proven right.

Every close carries the same quiet risk: a reconciliation someone meant to finish, an exception that got noted and forgotten, a journal posted after the cut-off that nobody flagged. None of it surfaces until year-end, an audit, or a number that doesn't add up in front of the board.

The fix

How it solves it

This system replaces the month-end close checklist with a control. The trial balance total is tested against the sum of every reconciled general ledger balance, and the two must net to nil before sign-off is even possible. Every open item sits on one exception dashboard until someone resolves it — not on a spreadsheet someone has to remember to check.

Replaces the month-end close checklist, the close status tracker, the open-items list and the sign-off email chain with one controlled workbook.

What it tests

Controls this system runs

  • Completeness control — the trial balance total is tested against the sum of every reconciled GL balance — the difference must be nil before the close can be signed off.
  • Sign-off eligibility gate — sign-off is blocked outright while unresolved exceptions remain open.
  • 14-line exception dashboard — every unresolved item across the close sits in one place, not scattered across tabs.
  • Journal cut-off test — postings dated after the close cut-off are flagged automatically.
  • WORKDAY-based due dates — task deadlines account for weekends, not just calendar days.
  • Independent second approver — a separate approver field, enforced apart from the preparer.

Questions

Before you buy

Can we use this alongside our ERP or accounting system?

Yes. It sits on top of whatever system you already run — you bring the trial balance and GL balances out of your ERP, and the workbook does the close control, exception tracking and sign-off around them.

Do I need Excel, or will it work in Google Sheets?

Every system is built as a standard Excel (.xlsx) workbook using formulas only — no macros, no add-ins, nothing to install. Because there are no macros, the files also open in Google Sheets and LibreOffice.

What happens straight after I pay?

Checkout is processed by Paddle. Within a few minutes of payment clearing, your download links are emailed automatically from info@appiqfinance.com. You get the blank master workbook and a fully worked example.

What if it doesn't do what this page says?

Report it within 14 days with the file, tab and cell, and we fix it and redeliver — or refund you in full if we can't. See the refund policy for the exact terms.
